Battle of schools... Contestant E vs NE
The old old story of whether elite school is better than others has resurfaced in the papers recently. Thus I will like to do a small comparision over the students in Elite (E) school and Non-elite school (NE). There will be two parts in the comparision. Part 1: students profile 10 years ago (1995). The reason that the profile is of 10 years ago is simple. I was a student back then... (stoopid reason, ya) Part 2: My own thoughts. Sources of datas are collected from various friends, relative and my own observations of how the profile has changed. Pls note that the percentage include here is based on my feeling,( for easy comparision) it is not a representation based on real Statistic done by any authorities . (The gov do take notes of such survery and there are real statistic been done on some of the aspects.)
Here we go...
Part 1
The Elite Profile 1995 (top 20 schools in Singapore according to the old school ranking systems)
1) 80% of the students used English in daily conversations.
2) 70% of the parents are Tertiary educated (A levels , Poly and aboved)
3) 70% of the students know how to play various instruments such as piano and violin.
4) 60% of the students lived in private housing.
5) 70% of the students had been drove to school by Parents.
6) 80% of the students have traveled with their parents to countries such as Australia when reached 15.
The Non -elite profile 1995 (My own experience and opinions of my school... hahahhh)
1) 80% of the students used MT in daily conversation
(I used hokkien at home and Mandarin in school, English was so bad that kena suan by my class chair who is the remainder of the 20% of the angmo speaking one)
2) 80% of the parents are Secondary educated and below. (My Form teacher struggled to explain my results cum behaviour to my mum in Mandarin... Her Mandarin was really funny, wahhaha)
3) 20% of the students know how to various instruments such as piano and violin.
(I want to learn too but than hoh, no $$$$ )
4) 70% of the students lived in HDB (My house at that time was a small 3 rm flat)
5) 80% either walked or take public transport to school. (My best record was a 5 min dash from my house to school as I was late)
6) 80% of the students have traveled to Malaysia (I only stepped into Malaysia once when I was in P3)
Part 2
As you can see the students'profiles are so different with each other. How can you determine which school is better? If a NE school has similar students's profiles will it do better? As more than 2 aspects are different, this comparision is not valid. (In Science, only one apect can vary, the rests are to remain constant before non-biased conclusion can be made.)
Why are the E students better recieved in the working arena here? Someone claimed that his friend got a job despite having to compete with those first class honours holders due to the fact that he was from the E school. Is that true? Or was it due to having better PR skills, can express hinmself better to charm the interviewer? I dun think that the interviewer will just employ someone by looking at the name of the school. If someone else from NE school can present himself well and articulate his opinions in a logical and creative manner, he will get the job too. No? Will the interviewer employ someone from E school if he did not take care of his appearance and seems too complacent?
The name of the school just seems to matters as most of the E students can speak and write better English due to frequent usage. They may also seem to be more confident as they have yet to undergo major setback in their life. NE students may have struggled and stubbled along the way and thus dun seems to exude such confidence. (Eg of such set back: WHy your grade is worse than Ah Sheng? He can get into E noe, U leh , useless) Still, confidence can be acquired from emulation of others who has it. Afraid to express own opinions due to language deficiency can be overcome as one join the toastmaster. Bad in Angmoh; like me, either you heck it or get yourself into an English Language school like British council and put in $$$ + effort to overcome it. (I will enroll after I got my JLPT 1 ...wahhh) Accentuate your good points, downplay your bad points. Attitude matters, not the name of the school.

The one that you fear
After toking to ah Ying, Hoon and hua, I realised that I tend to avoid a certain someone when necessary. Actually, this person did nothing to me and I definately dun hate him (yah, it is a him) But I will avoid him, whenever he is nearby. Why leh???Cos I feel shamefaced. As most of you know, I am a siao cha bo, and siao cha bo will act siao, right. In the middle of my siaoness, he will walk by so quietly... When I sense his presence, it is already like a big OH OH !!!
He will give the kind of disapproving looks that resemble a " Wah, you so old liao, still act like that, pls act accordingly to your age, can." without even opening his mouth. This may even seems like charisma to some. To me I simply hate that look, I have enuf of disapprovals by parents which I have to recieve without complain. To me, even when you behave correctly at all time... there is no need to look down on others right. Ah Ying say I am paranoid lah. Perhaps I am, but I can't help it, dun think I will ever be too friendly towards him... I just can't relax in front of such person. (Yah, me siao liao)

Product review === Garnier Light- dark spot corrector
Have been trying to find a spot corrector as no one look good with pigmentation unless the leopard skin trend is in. No, it is out now, beside the spots on my face clash terribly with the prints on my clothes. Yucks.
Acoording to ST and Her world and female, Garnier light is a good choice. Yah value for money as it only cost $10 bucks... Dun want to spend a small fortune on lancome and biotherm since garnier is the cheaper cousin of L'oreal enterprise. Since Garnier, Lancome and Biotherm all come from the same Lab, I think garnier stuff should be okie... Well, the blemish corrector from garnier really works on my big stubborn pimples during PMS.
Okie, I have to take a risk on my sensitive face... Will do a after usage review after 28 days. Stay rightly tunned.

I see angels clad in pink...
Meeting my colleagues for lunch and feeling a bit ,nah I confessed, real extra, yet I dun mind being an extra in a fish and co like restaurant that sound remotely like Manhattan. Got myself a calories laded mango milkshake that is delicious and not too sweet in taste. Feel guilty after drinking, as I can imagine my fat cells multiplying inside my head. My guilty conscience of excercising only once this week come creeping back.
Due to my new year resolution of trying to be stylish, I decide to embark on the scary proposition of shopping for new clothes ALONE. Scary not because I am lonely, scary because I will spent more if I shop alone.Yes, my track records shows. On my way to citylink, I saw something, pink, white and flurry, OMG, it is the angel. Have to say that it does a lot of injustice to the poor host. I can't help but smirk as I walked past. Just hope that my smirk wun be caught in candid video, right, garfield?
As I thot that the angels are seeking for the eligible female, my hands was dialling the familiar number of Garfield to ask her to come to citylink immediately, then stopped as one angel was approaching a guy. Chay, they are seeking for eligible male. Dream bubbles popped as my mission turn impossible. SIAN!!!
Is the guy been approached good looking... Err verdict is looks nice and bookish. But then I din stay long enuf to hear whether the guy is single or not? Guys like that are highly unlikely to be single lah? I continued walking.
I spent the rest of the afternoon buying stuff... Totally uneventful, except that I meet ah ying later to taste my tarts and yes she say it is nice, still she may be biased as she is my bf. (note: we are not gay, bf doesn't = to boyfriend)
In the end, I bought one OZOC Parrot printed black Tshirt? (huh? say garfield)
One white tshirt blouse and one pink skirt, tats it, din do much damage to my fragile wallet. All thanks to ah Ying who come to my rescue after 2 hours of shopping alone. Note: I din spent any when she was with me. Jialat, I really need someone to be around to curb my shopping frenzy. That totally explain my hours of fruitless shopping with garfield.

AAR of Pineapple tart marking
Numbers of attempts in pineapple tart making
-------------------------------------------------
2
Analysis of the pineapple skins
-------------------------------------------------
crispy like biscuit. (not too good)But then Mum like it crispy cum flaky, Dad like it slighty soggy with dough. Mum ask me to make the skins on next Sat, thus must be ok, since mum has high standard towards food...
Analysis of the pineapple stuffing
-------------------------------------------------
Sweet and dry, not sour. Prefer the sour taste of the pineapple and less dry. But then the store bought one all taste the same. Self-cooked will require 4 hours to be fully cooked. Will then spent more than 8 hours to make the tarts if use the self-cooked one. Thus have to compromise the quality if you want it to be done in a lesser time.
Reflections
-------------------------------------------------
Not quite up to standard yet, will make another batch next sat. Will see whether I have improved or not.
